THE Provincial Administration has donated 50 by 25-kilogram bags of mealie-meal to three orphanages in Kabwe and Kabwe Central Hospital to cushion the impact Covid-19.
Permanent Secretary Bernard Chomba presented the mealie-meal to Celeb Centre for Children with Autism, Arteco Orphanage and Community School as well as Children of Promise Orphanage.
Mr Chomba also gave out the commodity to the Province’s biggest hospital to particularly help the women at the Mothers’ Shelter.
Speaking when he presented the mealie-meal, Mr Chomba said the Government was cognizant of the challenges faced by the orphanages in light of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
“It is against this background that His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has continued to push for measures that would help the vulnerable in communities.
“As provincial administration, we are implementing the presidential directives by giving out whatever a little we have to the vulnerable. I believe that much as it is not enough, it will help to cushion the impact of Covid-19 on beneficiaries that are looking after the vulnerable in communities,” Mr Chomba said.
He said he would continue to lobby for organizations keeping orphans and vulnerable children in the Province so that they could help to lessen the burden of looking after the vulnerable.
In a vote of thanks, Caleb Centre for Children with Autism executive director Nellie Lulu commended the Provincial Administration for addressing the plight of the vulnerable because of Covid-19.
She said the beneficiaries have been struggling to meet the needs of the vulnerable children and the mealie-meal would go a long way in addressing their needs.
“As for us with children, this is a big push because it has not been easy to feed our children; please continue remembering us we really appreciate this gesture,” Ms Lulu said.
